Bug and I share a lot. Feelings, a band, eggs, hummus, a bedroom....I could go on. Recently, we've both been doing a lot of traveling around (which explains the lack of posting) and have been sharing a travel suitcase. I had bought this toothbrush on a journey and left it in the bag on accident....I'm sorry! Anyway, Bug found it and had a conversation with it and passed the word on to me through a letter that I came home to yesterday. I wanted to share this letter with you so that you remember that your belongings have feelings too, try to keep that in mind. This is what it said:
Hello Dear Catherine,
It's been a while. You forgot to take me out of your suitcase you lent your friend Tania. Since then, I have gone on adventures with her and eavesdropped on countless conversations. She's nice. She found me snug in one of the zip-up pockets and took me out. We smiled at each other and she stroked my bristles and put the tip of her finger in my mouth (that part felt weird, but I understood and it was ok). Upon returning to Brooklyn, much to my chagrin, I had discovered I had been replaced by an electric toothbrush. Tania told me you had fallen in love with it. I know I can't compete. Even though this news had saddened me, I am happy for you. It is not my fault I am young and still have long before I can mature, if I ever mature at all. I know the electric toothbrush had given you in two weeks what I have not been able to give in a lifetime, healthy gums. So I bid thee farewell my dear Catherine......fare thee well.
So I felt horrible at first. Then so proud of him for being so mature about the situation, he really has grown up a bit. He is happier now that he lives on the bureau with Johnny the white rabbit. It just goes to show, toothbrushes, spoons, fans, even small tupperware containers are paying attention to your behavior and how you treat them. Please don't forget this and just hope that if you do slip up and become a fair bit neglectful, I hope they will be as understanding as my friend here.
And electric toothbrushes are kind of my new favorite thing. You don't have to do anything but move it around!
